An Inquiry Into: Music

During these months students from lower 5th have been enjoying and sharing amazing experiences through the music. They have had the opportunity to know about different musicians like Satchmo or Louis Armstrong and his famous song ”What a Wonderful World”, as well as the Spanish little boy “Joselito” from the 30’s. They have enjoyed and performed “Copacabana” by Barry Manilow and reflect about “You’ve Got a Friend” by James Taylor.

This important subject held on the second semester of the year, helped boy and girls to identify different music styles and instruments. Throughout several days they have had quick little “musical appreciation exercises” through which they learned about “La Danza de Asturias” by Isaac Albeniz, “The Sweet Cascanueces” by Peter Tchaikovsky and “Carmina Burana” by Karl Orlff while drawing according to their feelings. There are very good pictures that show dramatic or peaceful scenes of life.

Furthermore , these children have had the experience to build up their personal musical instrument and to create their own music employing several harmonic and percussion instrument.

This inquiry has enriched their knowledge while developing their listening and creative skills. They have gotten a valuable experience working through all these weeks and the most important message that it aims: “ People from all Ages and Culture can Enjoy and Create Music”.
